πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“πŸ›’πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“ Understanding cart-level promotions

Learn how to implement promotions in B2B Ecommerce

Cart-level promotions are applied on the cart page based on the cart content and customer.

Let’s look at examples:

  • Multi-buy Promotions:
    • Buy X units of a product from a defined set, get one free or at a discount;
    • Buy 2, get the second one at a 50% discount, or buy three, and one of them will be free
  • Multi-buy Promotion: Buy X units of a product from a defined set, and get a discount on a “partner” product
  • Products or categories discounts: This could be something like a dollar off or percent off when buying a certain number of specific products. For example, a 20% discount on the Living room furniture category.
  • Customer registration incentive: all new customers who will register will get 15 euros off and free shipping.
  • Cart total threshold promotions
    • Fixed amount or percent off from a shopping cart total. In Tiered promotions, the incentive increases with the total value of the cart: when a customer spends $100, the discount is 10%, but when a customer spends $150, the discount is 15%., and so on
    • Free shipping is also offered quite often based on the order total threshold.

To set up a shopping cart promotion, you need to define two parts:

  1. A set of conditions that evaluate the context of a shopping cart and
  2. A discount action that is applied to the cart when those conditions are met.

Let’s look at the common promotion conditions and actions:

The following types of conditions are commonly used when configuring promotions:Β

● Cart total threshold
A condition is satisfied when a cart’s total exceeds the specified thresholdΒ

● Presence of specific products in the cart
A condition is triggered if a specified product(s) or products from specified categories are in the shopping cart.Β

You can also define what products should be excluded from a promotion

● Products with a specific attribute valueΒ

● Customer Segment(s) Only customers that belong to a specific customer group are qualified for the promotion

● Promotion validity period: Promotion is active at the date of the purchase

● Stores & Channels & Countries Define in what stores or countries the promotion is active

When conditions are satisfied, the promotion actions are applied to a shopping cart. Typical actions are:

● Discount on cart totalΒ

● Discount on a specific product(s)Β

● Adding a free giftΒ

● Free shippingΒ

● Granting a coupon for future orders

You can also select how the discount is calculated:

  • Fixed Amount
  • Percentage
  • Fixed price for a specific product
