A bundle is a collection of products sold together. Offering multiple related products and some potential discounts increases the order value and generates additional revenue.

Besides being a collection of products in a catalog, a bundle is a product itself with its own product information like name, description, images, variants, and prices. In this example, an iPhone and AirPods are offered as a bundle, and buying the bundle is $50 cheaper than two products separately.

With bundles, customers are not given the option to add included products to the cart separately.

On the cart page, a bundle is shown as one line and considered a single product when customers want to change the quantity or remove it from the cart. So, the quantity in the shopping cart means the number of bundles customers have ordered.

Bundles are used in all different industries.

  • a printer can be bundled with a set of blank labels for it.
  • Merchants can offer a Computer or GPS Navigation bundle.
  • telco can sell Internet and TV plans bundled together and
  • an insurance company can bundle car and home insurance.

A bundle is a special type of product in Ecommerce catalog with all the product characteristics. It has product information – name, description, images, attributes, and prices. Bundles are defined as main products with their own variants. And bundle variants have relations with variants of included products that make up the bundle components.

To implement bundles, you need to define bundles in the Catalog – main bundle products and their variants and link them to the variants of included products.

Selling bundles complicates the calculation of the product’s availability; a bundle is only in stock when all its components are available. You need to remember that, in some cases, bundle components can also be sold independently. As we discussed, a bundle is shown on the cart page as one line. But, behind the scenes, the system should keep track of all bundle components. When customers buy a bundle, the e-commerce system works with bundle components when processing the order. The shipping cost depends on the bundle components. They can also be returned or exchanged separately.
