How to Build a Marketplace

Here are my slides from the presentation at Ecommerce Tech Summit at https://geekle.us/

It is very likely, that your next Ecommerce project will be to develop a marketplace. Implementing a Marketplace is not a simple matter, and marketplaces are quite different when it comes to digital commerce functionality.

This talk will capture the main characteristics of Marketplace implementation and highlight the key differences between building a regular Ecommerce shop and a Marketplace.

In Marketplace, instead of two usual parties in an Ecommerce transaction (Buyer & Seller), there are three – Buyer, Seller, and Marketplace Operator which can also be a seller. Having multiple sellers means that everything in the Ecommerce system needs to be looked at from this additional Seller perspective. Which merchant owns product data, how you handle prices and inventory, how to split an order for fulfillment by different merchants and distribute payments.
